GIS Officer, Malawi

Duty station: Lilongwe, with frequent travel all over Malawi Duration: 3 month – 1 month probation period Possibility of renewal depending on fund availability, vacancy availability and performance. Type of contract: Full- time Starting date: ASAP.
Terminology: In this document we use the term GIS to encompass all aspect of GIS, WEB GIS, Remote Sensing, and information management system and database development / management. Supervisor: Direct: Country Coordinator (CO) of COOPI in Malawi The CO of COOPI can delegate the supervision to: For administrative / logistic aspect: the head of base of Lilongwe For Technical aspects to the Innovation officer (Milano), and or GIS Expert Advisor from the University of Salzburg (partner of COOPI)
Job description
The GIS officer will be responsible to provide the technical support related to GIS activities that are included in all the projects implemented by COOPI in Malawi and the one linked to the Regional GIS program (funds from ECHO, UNDP, UNICEF).
  • Conduct under the supervision of the country director GIS related survey/ies, analysis and reporting.
  • Statistic Data analysis.
  • Produce detailed and quality maps in various format.
  • Contribute to development / enhancement of GIS databases used / developed by COOPI and or partners.
  • Provide on-going and on field support to COOPI's team and COOPI's partner in all activities related to GIS.
  • Provide basic training to various NGOS and other institution staff.
  • Support / enhance the file keeping system of GIS related information.
  • Database programming (all COOPIs output must be rigorously open source and free software when delivered to the supervisor)
  • Technical support to the development of WEB GIS structures.
  • Support the M&E officer of COOPI to develop appropriate GIS database and maps for the M&E system.
  • Support the CD to write quality report / proposal to donors.
  • Represent COOPI in technical and / or institutional meetings related to GIS
  • Participate to short missions outside Malawi for GIS operational activities and or meeting / workshop participation.
  • Other duties assigned by the Country Director
Code of Conduct All staff of COOPI are supposed to adhere to and sing the cod of conduct. Insurance COOPI provide the staff with a standard insurance (SISCOS)
